So the year is coming to an end, and it’s so easy to look back on the goals you set yourself at the beginning of the year, and think, oh no! I haven’t achieved even half of them! Or to think of your dreams and feel you’re not where you would have liked to be in the process of living them.

Can I however encourage you to look on the bright side, and think of the positives. Think of all the good parts of the year and still be thankful, and not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with #thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6)

Here are further scientifically proven benefits of being thankful which you will find align with the will of God for us according to the scriptures.

According to an article written by Amy Morin for Forbes,

* Gratitude improves psychological health. Gratitude reduces a multitude of toxic emotions, ranging from envy and resentment to frustration and regret. Robert A. Emmons, Ph.D., a leading gratitude researcher, has conducted multiple studies on the link between gratitude and well-being. His research confirms that gratitude effectively increases happiness and reduces depression.

* Gratitude enhances empathy and reduces aggression. Grateful people are more likely to behave in a prosocial manner, even when others behave less kind, according to a 2012 study by the University of Kentucky. Study participants who ranked higher on gratitude scales were less likely to retaliate against others, even when given negative feedback. They experienced more sensitivity and empathy toward other people and a decreased desire to seek revenge.

* Grateful people sleep better. Writing in a gratitude journal improves sleep, according to a 2011 study published in Applied Psychology: Health and Well-Being. Spend just 15 minutes jotting down a few grateful sentiments before bed, and you may sleep better and longer.

* Gratitude improves self-esteem. A 2014 study published in the Journal of Applied Sport Psychologyfound that gratitude increased athlete’s self-esteem, which is an essential component to optimal performance. Other studies have shown that gratitude reduces social comparisons. Rather than becoming resentful toward people who have more money or better jobs – which is a major factor in reduced self-esteem- grateful people are able to appreciate other people’s accomplishments.

* Gratitude increases mental strength. For years, research has shown gratitude not only reduces stress, but it may also play a major role in overcoming trauma. A 2006 study published in Behavior Research and Therapy found that Vietnam War Veterans with higher levels of gratitude experienced lower rates of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. A 2003 study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found that gratitude was a major contributor to resilience following the terrorist attacks on September 11. Recognizing all you have to be thankful for – even during the worst times of your life – fosters resilience.

Take a moment each day, and focus on the things that are working for you, be thankful to God for them! Not only does this cause the hand of God to move on your behalf, it also helps you have a better quality of life.

God bless you and I wish you a glorious and wonderful 2017.

Benefits of Being Thankful

Being thankful should not be restricted to special days and thanksgiving only. We should always be thankful, all year round, through the good and the bad. This is biblical, and it’s also been scientifically proven that being thankful is beneficial to your health.

I’ll be sharing with you some of the benefits of thankfulness. Here are some for wellbeing:

  • Being thankful whether to a person, or just say, for waking up in the morning has been linked to wellbeing. In fact in a study of character strengths, gratitude was found to be the single best predictor of wellbeing.
  • Grateful teens are less likely to abuse alcohol and drugs.
  • Men and women with heart disease who practiced gratitude showed significant improvement in their heart health.
So are you still hesitant about being vocal with your gratitude? Just be thankful for being able to read this at all! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Never Give Up on Your Dreams!

According to nametests, the quote I strongly believe in – Do not consider yourself to be poor because your dreams have not yet been fulfilled; those who have never dreamed are the poor ones.

Weird that I’d be quoting nametests, but this sounds like something I’d write myself.

It doesn’t matter how long the vision takes to be fulfilled, as long as there’s breath in you keep the faith, keep the fire burning and hold on to your dreams, for at the appointed time, the vision will surely speak!

You can do it! You can be all that God has placed on your heart. Just keep moving towards it and each step will bring you closer to its fulfilment.

I’m rooting for you! Keep going!

I was really blessed the other day…

Was visiting one of my patients, an elderly gentleman who happens to be a Christian (I didn’t know this at the time). As soon as I walked in and said hello, he asked me, are you a Christian? I was taken aback and immediately asked him, “why did you ask?” He then apologised – “oh sorry, I thought you were. It’s just your smile, and the aura around you”. I smiled gently and said yes I am! He said I knew it! I’m a Christian myself!

Later, as we got talking, with tears in his eyes, he said to me “oh sister, thanks for coming, I’ve been blessed by your presence in my home. I can feel the Lord touching me now, His presence is definitely here!”

Wow, what a testimony. I just love the way God is touching lives through me everyday.
I would normally pray for my patients as I approach their homes and I always see the difference as He touches them with His healing hands. I am so blessed.

Just to encourage you. This week and going forward, try everything you can to leave people who come in contact with you in a better state than they were. We are the salt of the earth. Let’s not lose our flavour.

Have a wonderful week ahead!

Journey might be rough now, but it’s going to get smoother. There may be many mountains to climb, but you’re going to be stronger and tougher. You may have cried hot tears of frustration and disappointment but His joy will fill your heart. Stay with Jesus, all the way and he will soon come through for you.

How do I know this:
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes in the morning! (Proverbs 30:5)

God Is Able – Trust Him

I personally believe that God’s most delicate and complicated task was making humans!
“Gasp! How could you say that!”, someone thinks. Well that’s my belief. Scripture lets us know that God did not need to consult anyone in order to speak every other work of creation into being. He spoke, and there was light. He spoke and the heavens separated from the ground. He spoke and the seas broke away from land. All other creatures in the air, the seas, on the land, creeping, flying, crawling and even the invisible ones were all spoken into being.

But when it came to man, God took counsel and said “let us make man in our own image and after our likeness”! Isn’t that amazing. And then God had to form man. Every sinew, bone, joints, tendons, intricate nerves, blood vessels, cells, brain…
Everything had to be strategically placed. It had to be the right size, it had to look right. The nerves all had to feed into the right muscle and linked with the right nerve root, and so on and so forth. Wow, what thoughts and effort must have gone into the formation of man!

From time immemorial, humans have been studying the way human body works, we are sill studying and will continue to study it. But we have not been able to fully comprehend this totally amazing, beautiful, complicated, strong yet so delicate human body! Let’s not even go into the spirit and the soul of man!
Yet making these bundles of amazingness took God just 1 day!

So, if this same God who was able to make such amazing “machines” as humans in just 1 day is your Father, why then do you fret, worry yourself sick over life issues and troubles. Is there anything too hard for our God to do? It doesn’t take Him 1 second to solve ANY problem you might have at this time. You just need to trust Him, bring it to Him, lay it down at His feet and find your peace in His perfect will for you.

I dare you to trust Him completely and see if He will not come through for you. He says he will not cast away anyone away who trusts in Him. He will make all things work together for your good and you will yet rejoice in Him. It may not happen the way you want or when you want but I know that God never fails in His promises.

Just want to encourage anyone reading this who might be disappointed, going through life issues that our God is more than able. Do not lose your hope/trust in Him. I pray we all will persevere to see His salvation on the earth in Jesus’ name.

be blessed, be encouraged,  I am praying for you & I need your prayers too.

Fight A Good Fight

One of the things I don’t like doing is fighting people. I like to make up with people as soon as possible otherwise I’d lose my sleep! Can’t afford that you know :-).

So when my my 5 year old ( an ardent fan of Star Wars 😀) asked me what I don’t like about Star Wars, my quick reply was “the fighting”. His even quicker answer to that is “but mummy, they fight to save the Galaxy! They just don’t fight for nothing!!”

The wisdom in this reply by such a little child actually stopped me in my tracks and made me think deeply. While I’d never advocate actually fighting people, in life we tend to face so many battles. We fight situations, circumstances, mindsets, being put in a box, negativity, rejections, strongholds … and the list goes on and on.

To have or achieve anything worthwhile on this side of eternity, we have to fight . For some the battles are more intense than it is for others. You might even decide I don’t wanna fight, just wanna be in my own little corner doing my own thing. Just leave me be where I am. There’s however a common enemy we all are up against who will fight us whether we want to or not. This enemy doesn’t want any good for mankind. So whatever you do you’re in a battle anyway! You might as well make sure you come out of this unsolicited battle a victor.

The best way I have found to do the battle of life is by staying connected to One who is stronger than my enemy, my power source: Jehovah, the mighty man of war. When you stay connected to him in the spiritual real, He makes much power available in the physical to combat and be a victor. He gives you the wisdom to strategise, inspiration to know the right things to do and say in all situations, and the power to simply thwart the devil in all his plans for your life so you can laugh in his face!

You have to ensure you fight a well directed battle so you don’t fight as one beating the air. This can only be done with the help of One who’s gone ahead of you to ensure your victory.

Truth is battles are inevitable. May the Lord give us all the wisdom and tenacity required so we can win all the time.

So, what other ways have you found effective at fighting the battles of life? Go on, post your comments and let’s learn from each other.

Be A Blessing

Let me tell you a story, one of the many I have from working in the community with sick people.

So I walked into this patient’s house for the first time intending to carry out physio assessment. Well, I found out that wasn’t my mission there!

Anyway after spending 45 minutes with this lady, I had her weeping -“in gratitude,” she said.

All I did was listen, made a phone call and insisted she needed to be seen. I stayed on that call until the doctor on the other end agreed to see this lady the very next day! I also promised to follow up in a few days to ensure she was actually seen.

Turns out this lovely old lady had been suffering for weeks and none of the other professionals coming to see her had been able to secure the appointment she needed to address the real issue even though they had tried.

With tears on her face, she said The Lord has her in His hands and that’s why He sent me to her that day. This brought a tear to my eyes too. I didn’t feel like I did anything spectacular, but to her, it meant a lot.

Now, this is what my life is all about- being the solution someone’s been waiting for. Making the difference and bringing relief and joy to troubled hearts/lives. I feel blessed to be used by God in this way on a daily basis.

You don’t have to be mega rich or influential to start making a difference. You also don’t need to have a large crowd following you in order to start affecting lives for good. You can start anywhere – your day job, on the street, travelling to and from your daily activities, the smile, just listening, the encouraging word and a little helping hand is all it takes and you’ll be surprised at how many lives you’d have touched in no time. Always make your day count towards blessing others. You were blessed to be a blessing!
